Newsflash

Fellow Buckeyes, We had a pretty good 2011:
2 NCAA Champions -- Mens Volleyball and Women's Synchronized Swimming!
9 Big Ten/Conference Championships
109 All America Honors
We have a new football Coach and our recruiting class has moved up the ladder to the top 8.
The Alamo Club won its third consecutive Outstanding Club award, a Best Buckeye award, and a Menu item on the Sloopy's Diner menu--the San Antonio Alamo Club Breakfast Burrito! We gave out $thousands in prizes, and donated $hundreds and canned goods, blankets to charities. We supported fight against cancer, bullying, and promoted good health at the Rock and Roll Marathon and with our softball team! And we awarded over $5,000 in scholarships to deserving kids.
So 2012 looks to be another fantastic year!! We've had a couple of Basketball gamewatches for a few available to get together already with a few more upcoming. Here are some activities that you may want to participate in with your Buckeye brothers and sisters:
1. Last Sunday, 29 Jan, we had a small but fun ad hoc gamewatch for the OSU vs UM basketball at Lion and Rose, 700 Sonterra Blvd. Great thing was some Michigan fans were watching same gameon other side of the restaurant, which allowed us to mingle a bit.
2. Saturday, 4 Feb, we had our General Membership Mtg/Elections and Games Night featuring the dice game "BUCK-O". At Randy and Teena Larson's Buckeye Room!  It was a good evening with good food.  We also donated to the Food Banks--thanks to all.  We gained the volunteer support of Morgan Barbee as our Young Buckeye CEO, and Kim Diehl as our Volunteer coordinator...thanks to both.  Minutes will be sent out soon.
3. Thursday, 16 Feb, 7:00-9:30pm, Big Ten Bowling Tournament, Country Lanes, rt 281 & Bitters. Send Bowler Names and shoe sizes if needed to SABuckeyes@Yahoo.com. Individuals and teams are encouraged to play. Cost $15, trophies & prizes awarded.
4. March Madness we will have a couple of Big Ten/NCAA Basketball Tourney gamewatches.
5. We are looking at having an OSU Alumni Club Summer Picnic or summer event -- keep eyes out for more info.
Thanks, and GO BUCKS!!

Bucks stay at #3 in the Polls PDF Print E-mail

Syracuse (22-1) jumped Ohio State (19-3) for the No. 2 spot in ESPN polls (go figure) despite a controversial win over West Virginia in which an apparent goaltending play that would have tied the game late was not called. But Pollsters like those East teams.  Buckeyes move up one to #3 in the AP Poll.  We'll just have to keep winning and take it all in the NCAAs!  Go Bucks!

Buckeye linebacker calls foul on race-baiting Gators PDF Print E-mail

Trash talking is as old as football itself. A player baiting another player with a taunt or threat is usually par for the course during any game, especially a game between rivals or with championship significance.  So, it was no surprise that Monday's Gator Bowl between Florida and Ohio State — two teams that have loved Urban Meyer — had a little more vitriol than usual. What was surprising was the type of caustic comments being said.  Ohio State linebacker Tyler Moeller said Florida players hurled racial slurs at him throughout the game and that that sparked some of the chippiness during the 24-17 Florida win.  "They're classless. That's the way I'd put it," Moeller said, according to Marcus Hartman from Buckeye Sports Bulletin. "I've never seen more people swing at our players and call us racial slurs. I've never been called a 'cracker' more in my life than I have today. So I don't really have much respect for them in terms of that but they're a good team. They came out and outplayed us today."  It's too bad...Go Bucks, chin up!
